Barton Creek Cave
- Belize Adventure tour
- Maya Culture
You’ll be awed by the height and beauty of Barton Creek Cave as your guide (required by law) navigates your canoe for a leisurely visit. Life jackets and headlamps are provided. Stalagmites and stalactites abound as you float past impressive calcite crystalline formations. A wealth of Maya cultural artifacts was found on the ten ledges above this subterranean river. Much was removed before government protection was instituted. Contemplate the numerous ceremonies conducted in this cave. The spirit remains.
If road conditions permit, you’ll be driven through a small traditional Mennonite community where residents still shun motorized equipment and other modern conveniences. You might see Mennonites in traditional dress, driving horse and buggy to San Ignacio to sell their farm produce and plants at the Farmers Market.
