Caracol/Mt. Pine Ridge

Caracol, Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Rio Frio Cave and Rio On Pools

Tour categories:

Caracol, where an estimated 150,000 people once lived in a metropolis covering nearly a square mile, is the largest and most spectacular Mayan site in Belize. Located in the Chiquibul Rainforest, only seven miles from the Guatemalan border (if you’re a bird), Caracol is actually larger than nearby Tikal, but not as extensively excavated.

Enter the sleeping and burial grounds of ancient Mayan royalty. Imagine yourself playing on the ball field in a fierce and threatening competition. Climb Caana, the tallest ruin at Caracol-42 meters (or take pictures of other people climbing.) It is alleged that Caracol once conquered the larger nearby Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala. (Of course, the legend is denied by the Guatemalans.)

En route to Caracol you will stop at the tiny village of Augustine and the awesome Rio Frio Cave where you will see one of the most photographed sites in Belize. Add this special cave visit to your growing list of Belize adventures.

After a picnic lunch at Caracol, your final stop is the Rio On Pools. Opt to hike, photograph, relax, or take a swim in one of the continuous series of natural pools formed within granite boulders, connected by small rapids or waterfalls. This Belize activity is an awesome way to end your Caracol Belize adventure tour.

US $97.50/pp (based on 2 person minimum)

Add stop at Big Rock Falls: $15/group

Mariposa Tours thinks this is the best Belize tour in the Cayo District of Belize because it offers such a wide-range of features, includes Caracol, the greatest Belize archaeological site (Maya ruin), a user-friendly but awesome cave, easily accessible natural river pools and falls with swimming option, and travel through the broadleaf jungle and the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, two entirely different Eco-systems. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
